At 37, Hui Ting is facing the challenges of Huntington’s disease, a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder. Symptoms of this disease typically manifest in middle age and include motor, cognitive, and psychiatric disturbances. Huntington’s disease is characterized by its gradual onset and slow progression, marked by chorea, progressive cognitive decline, and psychiatric dysfunction, ultimately leading to dementia.
Having lost her parents at a young age, Hui Ting has lived with her aunt. Approximately five years ago, her condition relapsed and progressively worsened, making it increasingly difficult for her aunt to provide adequate care. Reluctantly, her aunt entrusted Hui Ting to our center.
Hui Ting spends all her waking hours engaging in choreic movements, even while eating, which elicits our deep sympathy. She has a peculiar habit of lying on the floor in the afternoon.
